1x04 - The One Where they couldn’t miss the train

Visting Jardins (that's French for: garden) and seeing the "Focault's Pendulum" (God, I don't even know the correct spelling) are the only activities that can make a Bahreni happy in his life. In all our excursions, JD has been the only one in enthu to visit every possible garden on the way. Forced by his eager desire to cover all the gardens in Paris, we went to see "Jardin du Luxembourg" and the Pantheon (where lies the other marvel of the world) on the second weekend of our stay in Paris.

Huge garden with lots of couples making out and thus, a no destination really for 8 single losers (Yes, Prakhar was also with us, so you see the day is not going very well till now) from IIT, the garden was a total no-no for all of us (except may be, for JD). As if so much was not enough, JD took us all for a long walk to Pantheon, which thankfully was closed and we were saved from another Bahreni experience. Maru and others (includig Avin, Sanjay, Pande) decided to give Bahreni suggestions a miss and took the onus of finding a fun place for the evening.

The name of "Pigalle", the sex street of Paris came to someone's mind then, and yes, everyone thought, that is a place suitable for 8 losers. So, we hurriedly caught the first metro from Pantheon and reached Pigalle via the shortest possible path. Well, Pigalle was a totally out of the world sight for someone from India. So, we started walking on a street lined on both sides with sex shops, erotic museums and strip clubs. Every strip club has a deal maker standing outside, which will say the exact same thing, "The original price is 20 EUR, but I will let you in for 10 EUR each" and when he sees that the cheap Indians are not yet convinced, the price drops down to 5 EUR per head.

5 EUR for a drink and a strip show, doesn't look a bad deal, huh? That was the thought that came to our minds when we first heard of that price. So it was a no-brainer, we are going in .. even though Gangal, JD and Sanghy decided to give it a miss, for others it was too good a deal to miss. So, we went inside and had an excellent time for 20 odd minutes. The atmo of the place started to become more and more rocking as the night came upon. There were street shows, great lights and beautiful chics all around. So, the next thought that is looming in our minds at around 11:30 pm on a Saturday night at Pigalle is , "I don't want to go home .. ".

Somehow, we knew that Gangal and JD (as if it was not already enough of him for the day), would be desperate to go home by now, and as if to just skip hearing their next words, we (Maru, Pande, Avin, Sanjay) started walking in the opposite direction to the station. We didn't want to go home, it was as simple as that. Yet, at quarter past 12, after the constant forcing by them, we decided to take them to the station and show that we have missed the last train and consequently, can't go home. Well, still get the feeling that somehow that day belonged to the Bahreni, we found the metro and also the last RER and managed to reach home, despite of all the efforts to miss the last train.

Quite amazing that in this country, we still fail to understand the train system .. whenever we have wanted to catch some train for some desperate reason, we have managed to miss it even after giving it our best shot, and just the one occassion that we really hoped and also tried to miss the train, we managed to catch it .. Irony of the Parisian life ...
